Prescott Photo Walk...

Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photo Walk: Prescott

Yesterday I had the opportunity to go over to Prescott and participate in a Photo Walk. I got to meet a couple whose photo stream I have been following on flickr for awhile now. They were great people! Fun to be around! Tom and DaNece, very nice people! I also met the leader of the walk and his girlfriend, Rich and Sadira. I also met a lot of other people but didn't get any names. :/

We took a short walk around Prescott, starting at Sharlott Hall Museum. It was such a pretty place! I had never been over there before. The grounds were covered in flower beds and old buildings. It was really neat!

This a sculpture called "Corn Mother".
I didn't get a picture of the plaque with it.
It reads:

CORN MOTHER

Iron Turbine Windmill is an historic windmill at 415 W. Gurley Street in Prescott, Arizona. It is technically a windpump, but the American term is windmill.

The windmill was built in 1876 and added to the National Historic Register in 1981.

After walking around the museum grounds we headed down Gurley St. towards Whiskey Row Alley. I have driven down Gurley St. several times, it is amazing what you miss when you are driving by not paying any attention to your surroundings!

Walking down Whiskey Row Alley...What a great place for a photo walk! I have always loved pictures of fire escapes and alleys. I never realized there were places like that right under my nose! :)
I loved all the old, cracking bricks and mortar!

I LOVE this red building! It was such a contrast to the old weathered, cracking brick buildings around it.I would love to take a family here and do portraits. It would be perfect for any kind of shoot!

Next we walked down Whiskey Row. Charlie thought this was one of those things where you take a pic and it turns it into a sphere. It is really a ball of made of various wood pieces. It was really cool! It was shot through a store window, that's why there is some glare there.

After a quick walk on Whiskey Row I crossed over to the Courthouse.
There is always something going on over there. There were people all in their cowboy garb.

And there are always bikers around too.

There was even one guy in Civil War attire...I think that's what it was anyway...

My daughter has come home from school before asking what that loud noise she hears everyday at school is. So one day were outside and she said that sound! She was talking about the cicadas! These bugs are so ugly and big...but they are fascinating! I had never seen one up close, only in pictures. Well they were everywhere at the courthouse. A little girl found one and she and Tom, were nice enough to hold it for me so I could take pics of them. They are truly odd looking bugs but so cool too.

This was the first time I have been to the Courthouse and this fountain was actually on. It makes for some fun pictures!

The little girl up front and the one next to her were the ones brave enough to hold the cicadas.

I just loved the colors of the leaves of this plant. :)

Well that was half of my day. The other half was spent at my son's Cub Scout Day Camp. Which I will blog about soon, on my family blog. :)

Hummingbird...

I was on my way out the door to take kids to school and spotted a hummingbird flitting around the tree in our front yard!
So I had to go grab my camera! I don't know how people get pics of those things! They fly too fast! I got a couple of not good shots of it but I decided to share them anyway.
So when I got home from taking the kids to school, I decided to put the hummingbird feeder on the tree out front in hopes that it will come back and maybe bring some friends! :)
I looked out a little bit ago and it was there again but quickly flew off. I will be watching for it so I can hopefully get some cool pics!

7 and a half months ago...I took my last 365 self pic...It was a great year, but it was such a hassle and a burden and a creativity killer that I dreaded every picture I had to take for the last few months. There were lots of days that the only pic I took was the 365 pic...I didn't even want to pic up my camera. I probably missed out on taking lots of pics of important things, because I just didn't want to take any.
Well I am starting to feel that way again. Even though I am just taking pics of whatever I feel like, it's still too much of a downer. And instead of letting it ruin the fun and enjoyment that I find in photography...I am going to stop my 365.
Maybe I can start taking pics for me now and not feel obligated and just take whatever I can find. :)
I really appreciated all the comments of those that followed me!

Big Poplar Sphinx Moth
My husband came home for lunch and said there was a cool moth on the wall at work!
Well of course I was going to go take a pic! So when he went back I asked him if it was still there. It was so I quickly went to get a shot! This shot was after I blew on it. I had to make sure it was still alive, right!? LOL!
I want to say it was about 4 inches across. I am a terrible estimator though, heh....but it was big!

The monsoon season officially began June 15th. We are finally starting to see clouds and a little bit of moisture. But with those storms comes lighting. And several fires have been started in Arizona from lighting.
There is a fire south of us, it was started by lost hikers. They set a signal fire that got out of control.

It was hard to get a picture of this little guy. As soon as the 20 or so kids found out there was a toad they all came running.
He was moved off the field so he wouldn't be trampled.

Quasi...for short. This guy's name was Quasimodo...because he wasn't taken care of well at the pet store and became disfigured due to an illness. So he has a lump at his shoulders and back legs.

The reptiles the kids were shown today came from Heritage Park Zoo.
They take in injured and abandoned animals.

I spotted this guy yesterday, while driving the kids to school. I think it nests near another school we pass everyday. It landed in one of the trees on the school grounds and I really wanted to stop and take pics of it, but after my last experience with taking pics near my own kids school I thought better of it.
So I took the girls to the park and was excited to see it flying around. I hope to get better pics of it someday!
I would like to find out exactly what it is too.
